Being an insurance agent is not about calling your relatives every day to sell them something. The real work is helping a family understand what cover they need, what their current policies do, where the gaps are, and then helping them through the claim when someone is in hospital, has an accident or passes away.
The job can be very meaningful, and it can be hard. Here are both sides, so you can decide whether to talk to me.
Who is this for?
- People changing careers who want to plan their own time
- Mothers who want a career of their own alongside their family
- Fresh graduates who enjoy meeting people and keep learning
- Anyone who was helped by insurance, or bought the wrong policy, and wants to bring good advice to the people around them
What you get when you join
- Mentoring from Lulu, a Sales Manager with 13 years’ experience, one to one as you start
- Help preparing for the licensing exams you need
- Product and claims training: not just how to sell, but how claims and after-sales service work
- Team support when you meet a case you are unsure about
- A no hard selling approach: listen to the client first, then advise
What we want to be honest about
- This is a commission-based role. Your income depends on your effort and your clients’ trust. No one can guarantee your income, and be careful of anyone who does.
- The first year is the hardest: exams, products, and slowly building your own clients.
- We don’t encourage hard selling. If you want quick closes and big sales numbers, this team may not suit you.
What do you need to join?
- At least five SPM passes including Bahasa Malaysia, or an equivalent or higher qualification.
- Pass the required licensing exams: PCE (Part A and Part C) for life insurance, plus CEILLI to sell investment-linked plans. The team helps you prepare.
- Register with the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM), and you can start.
Part-time arrangements, joining costs and exam plans depend on your situation: WhatsApp Lulu to talk them through privately.
