Key takeaways
- Free: Lulu is an insurance agent paid by insurer commission, so there is no fee for a review.
- Covers medical cards, life, critical illness, personal accident, MLTA, education plans, car and fire insurance, and nominations.
- Policies from other insurers are reviewed too; many of Lulu’s clients first came to her this way, with a policy bought elsewhere, and later referred their family.
- You get one table of your family’s cover, with overlaps, gaps and premium burden.
- No hard selling: if your cover is enough, she says so; she only suggests what is missing.
- Lulu has helped clients with about 110 claims, so the review looks at how each policy pays out, not just what it costs.
What a policy review checks
| Policy | What is checked |
|---|---|
| Medical card | Annual and lifetime limits, room and board, deductible, renewal age, premium trend |
| Life | Whether the sum assured clears debts and supports the family for enough years |
| Critical illness | The lump sum on diagnosis, and whether it covers months off work |
| Personal accident | Accidental death, disability and medical benefits |
| MLTA or MRTA | Whether it still matches your current loan, and any gap after refinancing |
| Investment-linked plans | Whether the account value is falling and the policy could lapse |
| Car and fire | Under-insurance and flood cover |
| Nominations | Whether beneficiaries are named and still right |
What to prepare
- Policy documents or summaries (annual policy statements are fine)
- Screenshots from insurer apps, such as Great Eastern e-Connect
- Details of any employer medical cover
- Rough figures for your housing and other loans
- The ages of family members
Can’t find a policy? Lulu can show you how to trace it with each insurer.
How the review works
- WhatsApp Lulu with whose policies you want checked.
- Share the documents or photos, or arrange to meet.
- One table shows each family member’s cover, sums and premiums.
- She explains the results: what is enough, what overlaps, where the gaps are, and whether the premiums are sustainable.
- You decide: she suggests changes only where something is missing.
Common problems a review finds
- Overlap: the same cover in two policies, so you pay twice.
- Gaps: life cover but no medical card, or a medical card limit that is too low.
- Agent left: nobody services the policy, and nominations and addresses are out of date.
- Falling investment-linked values: insurance charges rise with age and the policy can lapse.
- Old nominations: not updated after marriage, divorce or a new child.
To be upfront
Lulu is a Great Eastern agent paid by insurer commission, so the products she can recommend are Great Eastern’s. In a review she still explains your policies with other insurers clearly.
If you prefer a fee-only adviser who doesn’t sell products, Bank Negara publishes a list of approved financial advisers. Either is fine; what matters is knowing how the person you talk to is paid.
