PUSPAKOM in Malaysia (2026): how to book on GiCheck, what each inspection costs and what to do if you fail

PUSPAKOM is Malaysia's licensed vehicle inspection company, and you now book it online through GiCheck, which replaced MyPUSPAKOM in 2026. Selling a private car needs an MV15 (the old B5) inspection at RM30, a buyer's loan also needs a B7 at RM60, and commercial vehicles such as lorries go every 6 months. Since 1 July 2026 the MV15 report is valid for 120 days, not 60.

Key takeaways

  • To sell or transfer a private car in Malaysia you need a passed MV15 (formerly B5) inspection, which costs RM30, and motorcycles are exempt.
  • The MV15 report has been valid for 120 days since 1 July 2026, up from 60, although PUSPAKOM's FAQ page still showed 60 days on 4 November 2026.
  • A buyer taking a loan on a used vehicle in Malaysia must also pass a B7 Hire Purchase Inspection at RM60, and each PUSPAKOM booking carries a RM5 fee since 4 January 2026.
  • PUSPAKOM bookings now go through GiCheck (gicheck.my or the app), and its GEAR option sells next-day slots to eligible private vehicles at RM150 per vehicle.
  • PUSPAKOM says commercial vehicles must undergo a Routine Inspection every 6 months (RM55 for a light lorry, RM65 for a heavy lorry), and JPJ requires a valid report to renew their road tax.
  • A private car whose road tax lapsed for more than 3 years needs a RM25 Special Inspection, and JPJ also requires insurance covering the road tax period you apply for.

What is PUSPAKOM, and which inspection do you actually need?

PUSPAKOM is the company that carries out compulsory vehicle inspections for JPJ. It was the only provider until its concession ended on 31 August 2024, and it has been a licensed inspection company since 1 September 2024, with 53 full inspection centres and more than 25 visiting sites nationwide. Which inspection you need depends on what you are doing with the vehicle, and that is where most people get confused.

All fees come from PUSPAKOM's fee page. Motorcycles do not need an inspection for an ownership transfer, according to JPJ's transfer guide.

You no longer have to use PUSPAKOM for MV15. The Transport Ministry appointed other companies specifically for private vehicle ownership transfer inspections. The minister said in September 2026 that the fee is fixed by JPJ at all licensed centres, and that a scheduled inspection at those centres takes under 20 minutes with results sent straight to JPJ. For a B7 or a commercial inspection, book PUSPAKOM.

A pass on MV15 is not a mechanic's opinion. The minister described MV15 as basic checks such as verifying chassis numbers, and PUSPAKOM says it protects a new owner from buying an unlawful vehicle such as a cut and join. If you are buying a car and care about its condition, the RM50 voluntary inspection answers a different question.

How do I book PUSPAKOM on GiCheck, now that MyPUSPAKOM is gone?

Book at gicheck.my or in the GiCheck app. PUSPAKOM launched the GiCheck website in January 2026 and said in February that the app replaces the MyPUSPAKOM app. Old MyPUSPAKOM links still appear on Google, so go to GiCheck directly. It connects to JPJ's mySIKAP to pull your vehicle details and check whether you are eligible for the inspection.

  1. Log in to GiCheck and choose the inspection type, centre, date and time.
  2. If someone else will bring the car, enter their details when booking. They must bring their NRIC or passport.
  3. Complete the payment as GiCheck shows it. PUSPAKOM takes cashless payment only, so do not count on cash at the counter.
  4. Arrive 20 minutes early with your documents. You cannot be more than 10 minutes late.
  5. Register at the counter and leave the car in the lane. Most inspections take about an hour.
  6. Collect your result at the counter. The digital report goes to your email.

No slots? You have three choices.

Can you walk in? Walk-ins, including re-inspections, were suspended in February 2025, and PUSPAKOM now tells customers to book through GiCheck. Its fee page does say walk-ins are welcome at participating centres for the voluntary inspection only. Call first if you are relying on that.

Runners. PUSPAKOM has a vetted list of representatives called PAR and says you use any third party representative at your own risk. Ask for the fee upfront and do not hand over documents you cannot replace.

Opening hours. PUSPAKOM's FAQ gives Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 5.00pm for KL and Selangor. PUSPAKOM said in September it planned to open seven days a week from November and is aiming for 24 hours from January 2027, depending on public response and manpower. I could not find a notice confirming the change branch by branch, so go by the dates GiCheck actually offers you. If you are unsure whether a centre handles your vehicle type, call PUSPAKOM customer service on 03-5101 7000 before you drive out.

What does PUSPAKOM check, and what happens if you fail?

PUSPAKOM lists 10 inspection points, though each inspection type has different items:

  • Identity: registration, chassis and engine numbers.
  • Above carriage: the upper body structure.
  • Tinted glass: visible light through windscreen and windows.
  • Emission: smoke or gases against legal limits.
  • Side slip: front wheel alignment.
  • Suspension, brake and undercarriage: how they perform and their condition.
  • Speedometer: reading against actual road speed.
  • Headlights: intensity and beam alignment.

Before you go, PUSPAKOM suggests checking that your plates are clean and visible, tyres and brakes are safe, tint is legal and the engine is serviced. Since 17 March 2025, body lettering, speed signs, first aid kits, registration numbers and passenger seat condition (for public service vehicles) are no longer on the mandatory list, but owners are still responsible for complying with those rules.

If you fail, repair the failed item and book a re-inspection. PUSPAKOM's chief executive was reported in February 2025 as saying owners usually have 14 days to fix the problem and that a re-inspection checks only the failed components. Confirm your own deadline with the branch, because the rule can differ by inspection type. If you disagree with the result, ask for the Branch Manager.

Selling or buying a used car: MV15, JPJ and your insurance

Your MV15 report now lasts 120 days. A Transport Ministry directive doubled it from 60 days, effective 1 July 2026. PUSPAKOM's FAQ page still showed the old 60 days when I checked on 4 November 2026, so trust the notice. If the report expires before the transfer is done, the car must be inspected again.

  1. Clear any blocks first. JPJ will not process the transfer if there is a finance company's ownership claim, unsettled Customs tax or a blacklist record.
  2. Do the inspection. MV15 for every private car, and B7 too if the buyer takes a loan.
  3. Go to JPJ together. For individual owners, both the registered owner and the new owner must attend in person for fingerprint verification, and a representative is allowed only for non-individual vehicles. Bring identity documents, the VOC and a completed JPJK3 form. JPJ services through MyEG channels were suspended from 5 October 2026.
  4. Sort out insurance on both sides. This is the step people forget.

A PUSPAKOM report says nothing about your insurance. Three things are worth checking yourself. BNM reminds drivers to look at the car's market value against the sum insured and the average clause. Non-factory accessories may not be covered for theft unless declared. And if you changed the engine, chassis or body, you need a Special Inspection, so tell your insurer too. You can also check your NCD online for free before you buy.

Lorries, vans and e-hailing: how inspections affect your road tax

The Road Transport Act 1987 requires commercial vehicles to undergo a Routine Inspection every 6 months, and it decides whether you can renew road tax. JPJ's renewal guide sets three conditions for a commercial vehicle:

  • a valid PUSPAKOM inspection covering the period you are applying for;
  • insurance covering the same period;
  • a valid permit for that period.

After the first 2 years from registration, commercial vehicles and trailers can only renew for a maximum of 6 months at a time, and only a licence expiring within two months can be renewed. Trailers for containers follow a 10 year rule instead.

Book early. Since March 2025 the Transport Ministry has allowed inspection up to 30 days before the road tax expires, up from 14 days. If you miss your date, PUSPAKOM's list also asks for a JPJ compound receipt, PG3 or approval letter.

Do not rent parts to pass. In October 2026 PUSPAKOM backed JPJ and KPDN after they uncovered a scheme in Gebeng, Kuantan, renting out tyres for RM100 to RM150 per vehicle just to clear the inspection. PUSPAKOM's point is simple: the certificate should describe the vehicle on the road. It is also poor protection for your business, because the worn tyres are still on the lorry when something happens.

E-hailing drivers: PUSPAKOM lists RM55 for Routine and RM70 for Initial, and asks for your E-Hailing Vehicle Permit (EVP) reference number. Check your own inspection schedule with your platform or APAD. I do not quote a frequency here because I could not verify a current official notice on it. Your cover should also match the way you use the car; my e-hailing insurance page covers this.

Fleet owners in Kajang, Semenyih and Bangi have a new option for light commercial vehicles at the Kajang centre. For lorry insurance and road tax together, see my lorry insurance page.

What should you do next, and where can Lulu help?

PUSPAKOM and JPJ handle the inspection and the transfer, and that part is not something I do. Where I can help is the part that comes right after:

  • Just bought a used car? Tell me the car and your last policy, and I will explain the cover, sum insured and NCD questions to ask.
  • Just sold a car? I can walk you through cancelling the policy and keeping your NCD for the next one.
  • Road tax coming due? I arrange car insurance and road tax renewal on WhatsApp, for cars, e-hailing and lorries. I do not do motorcycles.

I advise in Mandarin, English and Cantonese, and I serve Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. No hard selling. If your current cover is fine, I will say so. WhatsApp me at 016-914 0086. Please do not send your MyKad number in the first message.

This guide is general information, not legal advice. Rules and fees are correct to the sources listed as of 4 November 2026; JPJ and PUSPAKOM's latest notices take priority.

Questions people ask

Can I go to PUSPAKOM without an appointment?

Plan on booking first. PUSPAKOM directs customers to GiCheck and suspended walk-ins, including re-inspections, in February 2025. Its fee page says walk-ins are welcome at participating centres for the voluntary inspection only, so call 03-5101 7000 before relying on that.

How long does a PUSPAKOM inspection take?

PUSPAKOM says most inspections take about an hour after you register at the counter. Arrive 20 minutes before your slot and no later than 10 minutes after it. The digital report goes to your email, and you get the result the same day.

What documents do I need for PUSPAKOM?

For MV15, bring the original vehicle registration card or VOC. For B7, bring the original, the VOC, or a copy endorsed by JPJ or a Commissioner for Oaths. Commercial vehicles also need the latest inspection certificate, and a representative must bring an NRIC or passport.

How long is the PUSPAKOM B5 (MV15) report valid?

It is valid for 120 days from 1 July 2026, under a Transport Ministry directive that doubled the earlier 60 days. PUSPAKOM asks owners to finish the ownership transfer within the validity stated on the report. If it runs out, the vehicle must be inspected again.

What is the difference between B5 and B7?

B5, now called MV15, is required before any private vehicle ownership transfer and costs RM30. B7 is required when a buyer takes a loan on a used vehicle and costs RM60. A buyer with a loan normally needs both, and B7 is booked with PUSPAKOM.

What happened to MyPUSPAKOM?

PUSPAKOM launched the GiCheck website in January 2026 and said in February that the GiCheck app replaces the MyPUSPAKOM app. All bookings now point to gicheck.my. Old MyPUSPAKOM links still appear on Google, so go to GiCheck directly.

Do I need PUSPAKOM to renew my road tax?

For a private vehicle, generally not, unless the road tax expired more than 3 years ago or the vehicle is treated as inactive. A commercial vehicle needs a valid inspection covering the period you apply for. Both need insurance covering that road tax period.
